Maller's debut collection in the Web 3 space, this deeply personal body of work launched the week NFT's became part of mainstream discourse.
ARTIST STATEMENT:
In 2017, my mother was diagnosed with cancer. She beat it, but a later checkup found a new kind. It had spread. Late 2020 she called me. She had fought so hard for so long, but her battle was coming to an end. I needed to come home.
I flew from LA to Sydney right after Christmas. Australia had some of the strictest quarantine laws in the world. I was escorted by the military from the airport to a hotel room where I would spend two weeks alone in confinement. Around the same time I landed, mum checked in to hospital for the last time.
In October 2020, I'd agreed to do a collaboration with the Nifty Gateway team. I figured I'd take my gear with me to quarantine, make some art, try to stay sane. I spent those two weeks creating artwork as I sought to come to terms. To terms with mums life ending. To terms with being locked in a room with so little time left. To terms with life and death and grief and love and everything in between.
These eight pieces are the result. The collection launched February 18th 2021, a month to the day after mum passed.
