Shantell Martin and Ben Sheppee will come together this October to present "Side by Side" a show of collaborative projects through different mediums including augmented reality (AR), animation, drawing installation and limited editioned prints at a brand new space in the heart of the Design District on the Greenwich Peninsula in London.
Works on show will include ‘Bowie 1976’, a collection of three NFTs [non-fungible tokens] created in association with Playboy, and inspired by a Playboy interview with David Bowie in September 1976.
“Side by Side” will be the artists’ first physical exhibition together since meeting in Tokyo in 2007. The exhibition will be both a retrospective of past pieces and an exploration of current work, and will include collaborative projects between the two artists as well as pieces each artist has created alone. Wall-based works in the form of canvases and framed limited edition prints on paper will be shown alongside video-based installation and projections.
Martin will also be creating work live on site to produce a unique site-specific piece.
“I’ve been looking forward to getting back into exhibition spaces and interacting with audiences again. I feel like my work has turned a corner in the last 18months having space to explore new ideas so I’m excited to share some of these works which are on show for the first time... ” - Ben Sheppee
