Anita Borg is a woman’s institute for coding on a quest to accelerate the pace of global innovation by working to ensure that the creators of technology mirror the people and societies who use it. In 2015, GHC and Google collaborated to create WE ARE…#facesintech, an interactive photo exhibit that provided visitors the opportunity to create and add their own portraits. Participants were able to add their portraits unaltered or have their portraits stylized in one of three “looks” designed by three celebrated female data artists.
Shantell—along with longtime collaborator—Zach Lieberman, came up with an algorithm code that mimicked the participant’s faces by building on the outline with Shantell’s drawings, creating a beautiful pastiched portrait of the many different faces attending the exhibition.
